According to a report by GGRASIA, the jurisdiction of nearly 700,000 people ordered all eight foreign-only casinos to close in November 2020 following the emergence of the coronavirus pandemic and the implementation of various strict travel restrictions. The source elaborated that the five sites remain closed despite the subsequent easing of these precautions and visa-free entry plans for citizens from a number of countries, including the Philippines, China, Japan, Australia and the United States, taking effect in June.

Previous View:

According to reports, the three open casinos in Jeju include a gambling-friendly area in Lotte Tourism Development Limited's 1,600-room Jeju Dream Tower facility and a landing casino company in Hong Kong-listed Jeju Shinhwa World Development. This club is Farada of Paradise Co., LtdIt also includes the Is Casino Jeju Grand venue, but the remaining five were closed due to the slow recovery of the once prosperous local tourism industry.

A Jeju government spokesman reportedly told GGRAcia that local officials have permission for all casinos on the island and could begin reconsidering the authorization of all facilities that cannot be reopened by autumn. The unidentified representative also said it was the official position of the jurisdiction that such venues should be forced to resume operations by Oct. 1, 'because we judge there is no reason to continue to cause confusion.'

An anonymous spokesman said…

"If one of those places wants to continue stopping, they will have to consult with us in advance with the right reasons."

Temporary Switchover:

Manila-listed Bloomberry Resort Corp. said it will reopen Jeju Sun Hotels and Casinos from Oct. 3 and New Silk Road Culture Co.'s mega-luck casino operations will complete the relocation of the four-star Jeju Shilla Hotel by early November, but sources admit there is no information on the jurisdiction of Jeju Marine Plaza and Jeju Marine Casino.
