On Dec. 29, R&F Korea (RFKR), the organizer of the stopped foreigner-only casino project (shown in file photo) in Incheon, applied for an additional extension, which is the opening date of the property. The company informed GGRAsia about our inquiry on the same day as the application and made it clear that we are working until we find a new partner for this plan with a new deadline open for now.

With everything else missing, the latest deadline for construction in the series is March 17 this year, set by South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

On Tuesday, the ministry confirmed to GGRA that it had received RFKR's application to extend the deadline on Dec. 29. The ministry said it could not comment further at this stage and could not decide when a decision would be made. It could be "before or after March 17 ″".

RFKR told GGRAsia that the company had asked for permission from the Pentagon to increase its total spending on the scheme from US$735 million to US$775 million. RFKR did not specify why in GGRAsia.

The company also told GGRAsia it had asked the government to delay its announcement on the updated construction schedule until RFKR found a new investment partner.

The former casino partner is Caesars Entertainment Inc, which withdrew from the Incheon project in early 2021 following Caesars' acquisition by El Dorado Resort, a U.S.-area casino business.

RFKR, a company related to financially troubled Chinese real estate group Guangzhou R&F Properties Limited, had to notify South Korean authorities by Dec. 16 if it requested an extension of the deadline.

The RFKR plan is located on Yeongjong Island, near Incheon International Airport, Yeongjong Island's main airport.
