According to the Newsis report on the 7th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Criminal Division 5 (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jun-dong) disposed of lawyer Lee Heung-yeop, who is suspected of attempted coercion, without charge (insufficient evidence) on the 5th.
Earlier, in March 2021, A posted a message on an online community to the effect that "Hyun assaulted junior students at school, including himself." In response, Hyun filed a complaint against A on charges of defamation caused by timely false information. Lee Heung-yeop, a lawyer, served as A's defense.
Lawyer Lee reportedly demanded Hyun to "drop the complaint because he sued for false defamation" when it was revealed that Hyun had bought a witness who denied allegations of school violence during A's trial.
Hyun then judged the demand as coercion and sued Lee for attempted coercion. For raising suspicions that he "forced prostitution against his juniors," he sued Lee for defamation of false information in a timely manner.
However, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, which was in charge of the investigation, decided that there were no charges and disposed of them (insufficient evidence) on March 14 last year. When Hyun appealed against the complaint, the Seoul High Court ordered a comeback investigation only on the charges of attempted coercion, and again disposed of the charge without charges on the 5th.
As a result, Lee plans to take legal action against Hyun. "We will file a lawsuit against Hyun on charges of innocence, defamation, and perjury," he said. "We will also prepare a civil lawsuit seeking compensation for damages. We will face criminal punishment for Hyun's misdeeds."
Besides, Hyun is currently embroiled in a number of controversies. On April 26, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education requested an official audit, judging that there was a problem with the scope of Hyun's concurrent employment. The education office believes that Hyun's working hours fell short of the 40-hour workweek contracted with the school.
