The Vietnamese national soccer team, the second opponent in Klinsmann's October A match, fell to China 0-2.

Vietnam, led by coach Philippe Trousier, lost 0-2 in a friendly match against China at the Dalian Sports Center Stadium in Dalian, Liaoning Province of China on Oct. 10.

After a 0-0 first half, the balance tipped in China's favor when Wang Chuming opened the scoring in the 11th minute of the second half.

Bad news for Vietnam came in the 43rd minute when striker Nguyen Thien Linh struck English naturalized player Zhang Guangtai in the neck with his elbow and was immediately sent off.

Outnumbered, Vietnam had to settle for a 0-2 defeat after conceding a late goal to Urey in stoppage time.

China is ranked 80th and Vietnam 95th in the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) rankings.

In February this year, Vietnam appointed a new head coach in Tru Xie, who took over from Park Hang-seo after more than five years with the Japanese national team.

Under Park, the Vietnamese have made leaps and bounds, reaching the quarterfinals of their first Asian Games (2018), winning the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games football title (2019), and qualifying for the final round of the World Cup.

Under Park, Vietnam hosted China in their third World Cup qualifier in Qatar last February, winning 3-1.

The South Korean national team, led by Jürgen Klinsmann, will play Tunisia in a friendly at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m., followed by a match against Vietnam at the Suwon World Cup Stadium four days later on Oct. 17 at 8 p.m.

South Korea leads the all-time series against Vietnam by a wide margin with 17 wins, five draws and two losses. The last time the two sides met was in September 2004 in the second Asian qualifier for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, marking the first time they have met in 19 years.

Klinsmann wanted an opponent that would play a tight defense in October's A match, and coincidentally, Vietnam were drawn in the same group as Thailand in the second round of qualifying for the 2026 North and Central American World Cup, making them a 'virtual opponent'. 스포츠토토링크
