5 billion won is not a waste.

KT Wiz, led by coach Lee Kang-cheol, has completed an all-time foreign trio.

KT announced in a press release on the 12th that it had completed a contract renewal with foreign player Wes Benjamin. On the 7th, KT announced that it had also signed new contracts with foreign hitter Mel Rojas Jr. and pitcher William Cuevas. As a result, KT was the first among the 10 clubs to complete the recruitment of foreign players.

KT fans have no choice but to cheer. All three players played for KT and were greatly loved by KT fans. Above all, grades tell everything.

Rojas, who joined KT as a substitute foreign player in the 2017 season, appeared in 83 games and successfully settled on the KBO stage, scoring 101 hits, 18 home runs, 56 RBIs, and 52 runs.

Afterwards, Rojas, who recorded a batting average of 0.305, 172 hits, 43 home runs, 114 RBI, and 114 runs in 144 games in the 2018 season, and .322, 168 hits, 24 home runs, 104 RBI, and 68 runs in 142 games in the 2019 season, dominated the KBO in the 2020 season. He dominated the league in the 2020 season, batting .349 with 192 hits, 47 home runs, 135 RBI, and 116 runs scored in 142 games. Rojas was the home run leader, RBI leader, and scoring leader, as well as the league MVP.

While at KT, he performed well in 511 games with a batting average of 0.321, 633 hits, 132 home runs, 409 RBIs, 350 runs, and an OPS (slugging percentage + on-base percentage) of 0.982. Afterwards, he went to Japan and experienced a bitter experience, but KT assessed that there were no problems with Rojas' skills.

Cuevas and Benjamin continued negotiations with a contract renewal in mind early on. Cuevas, who reconnected with KT this season in place of Bo Schulser, recorded 12 wins, no losses, and an ERA of 2.60 in 18 games. There were 14 quality starts (less than 3 earned runs in 6 innings as a starter). He set a record as the first undefeated winning percentage leader in the KBO League.

While playing for KT since the 2019 season, he posted double-digit wins for two consecutive years in the 2019-20 season, and in the 2021 season, he showed his fighting spirit in a tiebreaker against the Samsung Lions and served as the winning pitcher in Game 1 of the Korean Series, contributing to KT's first overall championship since its founding. He recorded 45 wins, 23 losses, and an average ERA of 3.64 in 100 career games at KT.
Benjamin joined hands with KT in the middle of last season. As soon as Benjamin arrived, he pitched well with 5 wins, 4 losses, and an ERA of 2.70 in 17 games.

In particular, fall baseball was a decisive opportunity to renew a contract with KT. Benjamin pitched well against the Suwon NC Dinos in the final game of the regular season on October 10th of last year, giving up 1 run (win) in 6 innings, and then took two days off. Then, on the 13th, he made a relief appearance in the first game of the wild card game against the KIA Tigers and erased 1 inning with 3 strikeouts to everyone's relief. It was a surprise.

Then, after resting for 3 days, he appeared as a starter in the first game of the semi-playoff match against Kiwoom Heroes on the 17th and pitched well, allowing 5 hits and no runs in 7 innings. At the time, KT did not make the playoffs, but Benjamin's good pitching was dazzling.

Benjamin, who was with KT this season as well, raised expectations as a starter for KT's opening game, as he was selected by coach Lee Kang-cheol early on. As expected, he pitched well in a game against the LG Twins on April 1, allowing 2 hits, 4 strikeouts, and 1 run (no earned runs) in 6 innings.
