Green Valley Ranch became the first Las Vegas-area locals casino to win the AAA Four Diamond Award, the motorist club announced January 16.
Green Valley Ranch was one of two new additions to AAA's four-diamond list in Nevada, along with Bellagio restaurant Le Cirque. AAA announced a total of 24 Four Diamond Award winners in Nevada, 15 hotels and nine restaurants.
Other Las Vegas-area hotels that received the Four Diamond Award on Jan. 16th were: Caesars Palace, Golden Nugget, Hyatt Regency Lake Las Vegas, Las Vegas Hilton, Mandalay Bay, Paris Las Vegas, The Mirage, Treasure Island and The Venetian.
The additional Las Vegas-area restaurants that received the award were: 3950 and Aureole at Mandalay Bay; Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas; and Michael's at Barbary Coast.
Of the remaining five hotels and four restaurants that received the awards, all except Cactus Pete's Resort and Casino in Jackpot are located in the Reno-Lake Tahoe market.
Station Casinos President Lorenzo Fertitta said the company's hard-working employees should be credited with the Green Valley Ranch award. "Pretty good for us locals guys," Fertitta said of being the first Las Vegas locals casino to garner a Four Diamond Award. "We're very excited to be recognized in this way."
Green Valley Ranch is co-owned by Station Casinos and the Greenspun family. Executive Brian Greenspun said the award was a tribute to property executives Mike Mecca (general manager) and Michael Tata (hotel manager) and their employees. "We're very pleased with the Four Diamond award," Greenspun said. "It is a recognition that Green Valley has something quite spectacular to offer."
The Four Diamond Award is AAA's second-highest award level, behind the Five Diamond Award. Bellagio and the Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay are the Strip's two five-diamond hotels; Renoir at The Mirage and Picasso at the Bellagio are the five-

Hotels and restaurant ratings are based on the quality of the surroundings, service and food.
AAA inspectors personally conducted unannounced checks of each hotel and restaurant that received the award. Only 3 percent of hotels and 4 percent of restaurants inspected receive the Four Diamond Award, AAA noted.
