Sibiong Tech lost 1-2 (6-3 3-6 1-6) to Ostapenko in the women's singles round of 16 at the 2023 U.S. Open tennis tournament held at Arthur Asi Stadium at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York on the 4th (Korea Standard Time).

Sibiong Tech, who challenged for the second consecutive U.S. Open, met Ostapenko, who lost all three games against him, in the round of 16. Ostapenko, who won the French Open in 2017, is famous for his play that focuses only on offense throughout the game.

Because of this style of play, he did not perform well in major tournaments after reaching the semifinals of Wimbledon in 2018. He advanced to the quarterfinals at this year's Australian Open, but fell in the second round at both the French Open and Wimbledon.

Ostapenko participated in the 2017 Korea Open and held the trophy. Since then, he has consistently participated in the tournament and is familiar to domestic fans as he finished second last year.

Ostapenko, who met Sibiong Tech in the round of 16, won a thrilling come-from-behind victory and recorded all four games against him.

With this, Ostapenko made it to the round of 16 for the first time at the U.S. Open. He will compete for the semifinals with Coco Goff (19, USA, 6th in the world), who defeated former world No. 1 Caroline Bozniacki (33, Denmark) 2-1 (6-3 3-66-1).

On the other hand, Sibiong Tech, which has maintained the world's No. 1 spot for 75 consecutive weeks, will give up the No. 1 spot to Arina Sabalenka (25, Belarus, world No. 2).

Karolina Muhova (27, Czech Republic, world No. 10), who finished second at this year's French Open, advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Wang Shin-yu (22, China, world No. 53) 2-1 (6-35-7 6-1).

Muhova will play in the quarterfinals against Sorana Sirstea (33, Romania, world No. 30).

In the men's singles, Novak Djokovic (36, Serbia, world No. 2) advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Bornagyo (25, Croatia, world No. 105) 3-0 (6-2 7-5 6-4).

Djokovic, who is seeking his 24th Grand Slam title, the most ever, will meet Taylor Fritz (25, U.S., ninth in the world rankings) on the threshold of the semifinals.

Djokovic unilaterally leads the two with seven wins and no losses.
