The 40,000-square-foot casino doesn't have its own hotel, but it's attached to the nearby Ritz-Carlton Hotel, which opened in February. The Ritz-Carlton Hotel, part of the Marriott hotel chain, is separately owned and managed and will debut the Ritz brand in Nevada.
The casino will be operated by CIRI Lakeside Gaming Investors LLC, which was licensed last year by the gaming regulator. CIRI is owned by Cook Inlet Region, a company owned by a member of the Alaska Indian tribe. The licensing process for the parent company was unusual, given that the Nevada Gaming Control Board required only a fraction of the company's 7,000-odd shareholders to submit to background checks.
For CIRI, a separate management company, Sybro LLC, will operate the casino. Sybro's partner, Dan Richartz, is the former president of Caesars Palace Hotel Casino.
Casino MonteLago aims to attract locals with favorable promotions as well as tourists interested in luxury vacations. It is larger than the casino inside the Hyatt Lake Las Vegas resort. Cook Inlet owns a 50% stake in Hyatt.
