South Korea's women's soccer team has failed to break its first-round World Cup jinx.

The South Korean women's national soccer team, coached by Colleen Bell, lost 0-2 to Colombia in their first Group H match at the FIFA 2023 World Cup Australia-New Zealand on Friday at Sydney Football Stadium in Sydney, Australia. They were unable to recover from a two-goal first half deficit. With the loss, South Korea is now winless in four group stage matches at the World Cup. South Korea also lost in the first round of the 2003, 2015, and 2019 World Cups. Including this tournament, they have not scored a goal in four group stage matches and have conceded 11 goals.

In the 32-nation tournament, the first and second place finishers in each of the eight groups of four teams advance to the round of 16. South Korea had hoped to advance beyond the round of 16 at the 2015 tournament in Canada, their highest-ever finish, but the team's chances of making it past the group stage are now in doubt. South Korea was expected to battle Colombia for second place in the group, but lost the head-to-head matchup.

South Korea's Group H included Germany, the No. 2 team in the FIFA rankings and the favorite to win the tournament. The Germans were fresh off a 6-0 win over Morocco in their first group game the day before. As of today, 25 days after the conclusion of the first round of group play, Germany is the highest-scoring team in a single game. Germany and Colombia are tied for first and second place in Group H with three points after their first round wins. Germany leads in goal difference. South Korea is third, ahead of Morocco on goal difference.

South Korea's youngest player, Casey Eugene Fehr, became the youngest player to make a World Cup appearance for either the men's or women's national team when she took the field as a 33rd-minute substitute against Colombia. 카지노사이트 The 16-year-old, who has an American father and Korean mother, was born in June 2007.

South Korea will play its second group game against Morocco on Sept. 30 at 1:30 p.m. ET.
