At the Gyeonggi-do track and field trials for the National Youth Games, an ordinary student beat out athletes from the track and field team to win a gold medal. The protagonist is Dong Hwi Gun (10) from Gapyeong Piloting Elementary School.

He won the 200-meter race in the boys' fourth grade division at the Gyeonggi-do 2023 Gyeonggi-do Presidential Grade Level Athletics Competition and 53rd National Youth Sports Games Gyeonggi-do First Selection Round held at the Yeoncheon Public Sports Complex Track and Field Stadium in Gyeonggi-do, Gyeonggi-do, on Sept. 26. After finishing first in the preliminaries (30.63 seconds) among 21 athletes in three groups, Dong won the gold medal in the final with a time of 30.14 seconds, 0.49 seconds faster than his previous best.

The victory was achieved by a student, not a professional athlete. Dong beat athletes from the track and field department in the final. He finished 0.16 seconds ahead of second-place Kim Gun-woo (SOUCHO).

The school currently does not have an athletics department. For a month before the competition, Dong had been training after school at Gapyeong Middle School's track and field training center. He was the only elementary school representative from Gapyeong County to win a gold medal at the competition.

He is an ordinary student, but his skills are as good as those of the track and field team. He won the 100m (15.07sec) and 200m (31.64sec) at the Gapyeong County Championships on March 11. Selected to represent Gapyeong County's fourth-grade 200-meter team, Dong improved his 200-meter time by 1.5 seconds in just over a month.

This was an upset at the event, which featured more than 850 students from 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi-do. On the 27th, Dong also competed in the 800 meters, finishing first in the preliminaries (2:37.40) out of 19 runners in three groups, and fourth in the finals (2:36.69). In the 800-meter final, all seven athletes except Dong were members of the track and field team.

Commenting on the event, which was streamed live on YouTube, KBS track and field commentator Lee Lee-soo said, "Dong-hwi's acceleration at the end was good," adding, "I think he has a lot of potential to grow as an athlete with very good speed." "If you evaluate his running form, he seems to have a very bouncy running style, which is perfect for short-distance events," he said, adding, "He was impressive with his Usain Bolt ceremony."

According to the commissioner, Dong became a local favorite after crossing the 200-meter finish line and performing the 100-meter world record holder's lightning bolt. "My favorite track and field athletes are Usain Bolt abroad," Dong said, "and Kim Kook-young and Kim Da-eun in Korea. Kim Kook-young (Gwangju City Government) and Kim Da-eun (Gapyeong County Government), two of Korea's top men's and women's track and field sprinters, are also alumni of the event. 호텔카지노

"I think I got good results because I trained consistently in the early morning and after school," said Dong, adding, "It was hard but fun to work out with my mom and dad, who were busy." "I am especially grateful to Coach Oh Hyung-il of Gapyeong High School and Coach Kang Kyung-ah of Gapyeong Middle School, who trained me intensively for a month before the competition," he said. "I am also grateful to my older brother and sister in the athletics department at Gapyeong Elementary and Middle School who helped me during my workouts."

"The weather was not favorable (rain), which could have lowered their times, and they performed well despite their lack of experience," said Kang Dae-hoon, Director of Athletics at Gapyeong County Office, who watched the event from the sidelines. The event was organized by the Gyeonggi-do Office of Education and the Gyeonggi-do Athletics Federation, hosted by the Gyeonggi-do Athletics Federation and the Yeoncheon County Athletics Federation, and sponsored by the Gyeonggi-do Sports Council, Gyeonggi-do Office of Education, and Yeoncheon County Sports Council.
