Approximately 600 Malaysian and overseas members celebrated the 50th anniversary of the genting group at the genting convention center grand ballroom. The black-tie gala dinner offered delicious food, drinks, great music and a great collection under the theme of Forging Ahead.
In a speech that evening, Genting's chairman and CEO, Tan Sri Lim Kok Tay, attributed the company's achievements to his father, Tan Sri Lim Goh and his ideas and vision. "Genting's corporate DNA is something he personally formed and he's the one responsible for making Genting & Resort World's foundation gain recognition around the world," Koktei said.
He also spoke of the modest start of a group that has become a mogul running various businesses in more than a dozen countries around the world, with more than 60,000 workers, starting with a 200-room hotel in Genting Highlands. In addition to its leisure and hospitality businesses, Genting is also involved in other businesses such as oil and gas, real estate development, farms and biotechnology.
Kok Thursday also noted that Genting's economic contribution is not only limited to Malaysia, but also exists in the UK, where the UK's first integrated resort, World Birmingham, is set to open soon. It also mentioned that Korea is building Resorts World Ju and plans to boost tourism within the company's upcoming Resorts World Las Vegas and integrated tourism plans.
