The Treaty of Tempe ended the Second Macedonian War (200 BC – 196 BC) between the Roman Republic and Philip V of Macedon. Rome won the decisive Battle of Cynoscephalae in 197 BC, and by the Treaty of Tempe, 196 BC, they forced Philip to give up Macedonia's possessions in Greece and Asia, and pay a war indemnity of 1,000 talents ( 30 tonnes/66,000 pounds ).
