Transformers: Robots in Disguise is an anime series which has an associated toy line released in 2001 by Hasbro. The anime and toy line were originally released in Japan in 2000 by Takara as Transformers: Car Robots (トランスフォーマー・カーロボット).

Originally imported to the West as a "filler" line while Transformers: Armada was in production, Robots in Disguise brought the Autobot and Decepticon factions (and thus, the original concept of robots transforming into vehicles and other objects rather than organic-looking animals) back into the general public after five years of Beast Wars and Beast Machines lines. (Machine Wars, which was exclusive to Kay-Bee Toys branches, was a previous failed attempt at rejuvenating interest in both factions.) While it introduced many new figures, majority of the line consisted of repaints from Generation 1, Generation 2, Beast Wars/Beast Machines and Machine Wars.

List guide

  • Figures sold in Japan are given catalog numbers. Figures without catalog numbers are not available in the Japanese market.
  • The figures come in different size classes:
  • Spy Changer - The smallest size class, standing at roughly 3 inches in robot mode height with very simplistic transformation. This class is equivalent to the Legends Class of today's toy lines.
  • Basic - Scout-sized figures (roughly 4 inches tall) with easy transformation.
  • Deluxe - The bulk of the toy line's catalog. Each figure stands at roughly 5 to 7 inches tall and features medium level transformation and exceptional articulation.
  • Mega - Larger-sized figures that feature more articulation and advanced transformation. Equivalent to the Voyager Class of today's toy lines.
  • Ultra - Larger-sized figures standing at approximately 7-8 inches in robot mode height. This fits between Voyager and Leader Class sizes.
  • Super - The largest size class (not counting Fortress Maximus), standing at 9 inches. Features more complex transformation and light and sound effects. Now known in current toy lines as Leader Class.
  • Release Status indicates the figure's availability:
  • General indicates that the figure was released at all toy, hobby and department stores.
  • Store exclusives mean that the figure was sold only on a specific chain such as Target or Toys "R" Us.
