Towner Railway

The Towner Railway, under lease from the Colorado, Kansas, and Pacific Railway Company by the Victoria and Southern Railway (V&S), was purchased by the Colorado Department of Transportation in October 2011. The track consists of 122 miles of a former Missouri Pacific Railroad line east from interchanges with Union Pacific and BNSF at North Avondale Junction to Towner, Colorado, where it interchanges with the Kansas and Oklahoma Railroad. V&S had applied to abandon the line from North Avondale Junction to Eads, with the intention of removing the line and selling the materials as scrap for immediate cash. The Government of Colorado opted to purchase the line to keep the right-of-way available for rail use.
