Town Hall is transformed
In 1989 the building became the focus of the Township to turn this famous Centerville Ohio landmark into a performing art center.
It is currently a Theatre with the All Children's Youth Theatre, The Traveling Teen, and Landmark Children's Theatre companies. In 1991 with the help of a Special Projects grant Town Hall Theatre emerged with the All Children's Youth Theatre Company.
Town Hall continues
Between 1992 and 1996, a facility renovation was initiated, resulting in a newly refurbished auditorium, lobby and rehearsal room, as well as the installation of an accessible ramp entrance and restrooms, a dance studio and scene shop.
Each season
The theatre is dedicated to the presentation of theatre for young audiences. It puts on about 8 to 10 shows per season. It does this through three producing arms. The Landmark Children's Theatre Company features professional adult actors performing alongside volunteer community adult performers and youth. The All Children's Theatre features large, all-cast shows ranging from grades 2-12. The A.C.T. Touring Teens feature high school students grades 7-12 performing on an in-school tour. In addition to the production schedule, the theatre offers classes in acting, dance and music. For more information, log onto www.townhalltheatre.org.
During the summer the Rec’ Center sponsors summer camps that range from acting to singing and everything in between. Town Hall is owned by the Washington Township Recreation Center and encourages economic growth, educational excellence, and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans.
Each year, the program reaches over 10,000 audience members and involves over 400 community volunteers in every facet of production.
The Experience
Town Hall Theatre is dedicated to giving patrons and participants an experience that values the importance of each of the disciplines present in the performing arts. This experience occurs in an environment where education and imagination not only coexist, but nurture one another, as well.
By combining professional directors, designers, and educators with community actors and crew, the Theatre provides these volunteers with a professional and quality-driven atmosphere in which to develop as artists. The program receives the majority of its support from community tax dollars, ticket sales and class fees.
With a constant changing environment all around it with new stores construction, we know that Town Hall Theatre will be here for sometime enriching the community.
Geography
Town Hall is located in the “Heart of Centerville", a booming economical location in the middle of Centerville with a recent store opening of a brand new Panera Bread and a Spa in the works this area is growing larger every year. Across the street there is a Graeters and a City Barbecue that have been around for about 3 years.
2006 Brings Change
About 5 or 6 years ago the township bought the old Showcase Centerville Cinemas that went out of business, the movie theater is located right next to the Rec' Center. For many years the trustees struggled to decide in what to do with the building. Around 2004 a levy was proposed to renovate it to provide lecture halls, game courts and a variety of other activities to enrich the community. Unfortunately the levy did not pass and the building sat quietly for a couple years only being used for storage.
Just recently the building was renovated and now provides a teen center for local teens to come and hang out at every now and then. They also turned one of the rooms into a makeshift Theatre for the touring teens productions that held its first show on September 6 2006. The location was named Rec' West.
