Professor Tom Harris (1903-1983) was a distinguished paleobotanist and keen gardener.

Tom Harris was an academic at the University of Reading who was Head of the Department of Botany.

Harris supervised William Chaloner (botanist) and Winifred Pennington, both later professors of botany.

Tom Harris would say to students: "If you're not prepared to die for botany, you'd better be prepared to kill for it!"

The Harris Garden, located on the University of Reading's Whiteknights Campus, was named after him.
