Facts

   •  This will be the first Tom and Jerry film to be made without the founders William Hanna and Joseph Barbera who passed way in 2001 and 2006 respectively.
   •  The film is made as a dedication to veteran illustrator Gene Deitch (1924 - 2020), who worked on a few "Tom and Jerry" features in his lifetime.
   •  The original screeches, shrieks, howls, yells, gasps, and screams heard in Tom and Jerry are from the original cartoons that aired from 1942 to 1957 were featured in the film through the archived recordings of William Hanna.
   •  Director Tim Story takes inspiration from the live-action-animation hybrid film Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) for the film's VFX.
   •  It is the longest Tom and Jerry feature film with the running time of 101 minutes.
   •  After Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019), this is the second live action family film based on an animated cartoon casting Michael Peña.

Plot

The film based in New York shows a street smart young girl manipulating her way into a fancy hotel job just a week before a grand wedding that’s been the talk of the town for some time. Meanwhile, Jerry is looking for a new home after being chased away by Tom. Consequently, the girl finds out that Jerry has taken residence in the same hotel and hires Tom to exterminate his mortal enemy. The film explores the iconic frenemy duo’s rivalry throughout the film. As the mayhem ensues at the eve of the wedding, the legendary battle between the cat and mouse puts the event planner’s job, the wedding and the hotel in jeopardy. At the end when Tom and Jerry reconcile with their mistake, they insist the hotel crew and the event planner to work and put back things into its place. As the happy ending ensues, the film leaves a mark.

The 2021 film desperate to feed the eager audience fails to focus on the dynamic duo of the supposedly protagonists, Tom and his mortal enemy Jerry. The cast will convince you that there was an actual animated animal next to them while shooting. However, the shift of the focal point to the dull humans was unnecessary as all that the audience asked for was the classic rivalry between the duo. Despite a shorter screen time than expected, the legendary duo delivers what was expected of them. You will find yourself giggling as the duo keep the chase game on as it will remind you of those days of watching the epic cartoon. All in all, the film hangs loosely around the characters but hits the string of nostalgia just right which makes this one worth-watching.
