Tobias-Thompson Complex, also known as Little River Archeological District (14RC2,3,8,9,12,13,14,40), was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966.
Its 1964 statement of significance read:
The complex is composed of a cluster of eight village sites along the Little Arkansas River, all of which relate to the Little River Focus of the Great Bend Aspect dating from 1500-1700 AD. These sites have been related to a historic culture, the Wichita Tribe, and may have been among the villages visited by Coronado in Quivira in 1542.
