Public service and Advocacy

In December 2014, he chaired the committee that conducted the Adamawa State, People's Democratic Party's primary election for the state house of assembly. After the election process, he was compelled by the party leaders to announce the result of the election but insisted that announcing an election result is out of the juridiction of the committee. He said "The electoral guidelines for the purpose of the House of Assembly Primaries states clearly that at the various constituencies where these various nominations are conducted, the returning officer in charge of the Primaries should announce the results publicly before those who attended the election and it is declared there and then".

On 27 November 2015, he co-signed with Kayode Ajulo a leading human rights advocate in Africa and others a petition addressed to Barack Obama, the president of the United State of America by groups of activists. The petition was addressed to the president to draw his attentions to what they describe as "Authoritarianism and human right violations" by President Muhammadu Buhari. On 9 February 2015 while reacting to the postponement of the Nigerian general election held in April 2015, Ihemadu said "INEC should use the postponement to tidy up its acts and "use the six weeks to galvanise Nigerians who are already registered to get their permanent voters' card.".
