Two sons (Istvan Znamenak, Henrik Pauer) of a freedom fighter grow up in Budapest, from the 1956 uprising to the changing 1960s.

Time Stands Still (Hungarian: ) is a 1982 Hungarian film about two brothers and the woman they both love, all living in Budapest during the uprising of 1956. It stars Istvan Znamenak, Henrik Pauer, Sandor Soth, Aniko Ivan and Lajos Oze and was directed by Peter Gothar. Popular among audience and critics it won the Award of the Youth at Cannes, the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Language Film and the award for Best Director at the Tokyo International Film Festival. The film was also selected as the Hungarian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 55th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.

A Budapest high school in the beginning of the 1960s. Dinis suffers the torments of adolescence. His father had to leave Hungary after the uprise in 1956, and since then Dini's mother has had to take care of her two sons on her own. A friend of Dinis' father, Bodor, is released from prison and moves in with them. Dinis and his brother Bodor are far from happy over this intrusion of their family life.
