Critical reception

The song was received well by critics and blogs, hotnewhiphop.com described the song as "Her new single "Time" may be her best yet. The Atlantean showcases her vocal range as she sings about relationship hopes and woes over a smooth, gospel-tinged chord progression. Don't let her rocking bod distract you from her rocking pipes... or do let it distract you. It's a win-win." The song had a user rating of 79% out of 100. ThisisRnB.com described the song as "The R&B vixen has now liberated the classic styled piano ballad “Time,” which finds K singing out to her ex about finding a better man and a better situation for herself." Singersroom reviewed the song stating "I'm beginning to see a theme emerging in the concept of K. Michelle’s upcoming LP More Issues Than Vogue: finding strength after a breakup. Her previous releases “Not A Little Bit” and “Ain’t You” both deal with post-relationship stresses, and her newest release “Time” is no different. On the old-school soul record, Michelle joyfully pats herself on the back for leaving a bad relationship just in the nick of time. “It’s too late for you and I, thank God I left you right on time / Kissing you goodbye, and I did it right on time,” she sings.”Rap-Up magazine reviewed the album describing the song as "K. Michelle delivers her latest single right on “Time.” As she gears up for the March 25 release of her third album More Issues Than Vogue, the Memphis songstress has unveiled yet another glimpse of the project. “Time” follows an impressive and versatile streak of MITV leaks, including “Not a Little Bit,” “Mindful,” and “Ain’t You.” On this smooth and emotional track, K. Michelle has some potent words for her ex, saying it’s “too late” to reconcile."
