Episode 229 Tim Rymel

Tim Rymel is a former ex-gay leader who worked as the outreach director of Memphis, Tennessee ex-gay ministry Love in Action, between 1991-1996. Unlike his Love in Action co-workers, John Paulk, and John Smid, Rymel quietly came out as gay in 2008. However, in 2014, he released his book, Going Gay My Journey from Evangelical Christian Minister to Self-Acceptance, Love, Life, and Meaning, for which Smid wrote the forward. Rymel was previously married to a woman and has two children from that marriage.

In July, 2014, he signed a statement condemning reparative therapy for minors, along with eight other former prominent leaders and founders of ex-gay ministry. The statement was released through the National Center for Lesbian Rights as part of the #BornPerfect Campaign.

Rymel is an LGBT advocate, speaker, author, and a weekly contributor for The Good Men Project, where he continues to publicly denounce the ex-gay movement, and call for an end to reparative therapy. He is also the author of the business book Everything I Learned About Management I Learned from Having a Kindergartner, and he lives with his male fiancé and daughters in Northern California.
