Tiltjet

A tiltjet aircraft is similar in concept to a tiltrotor design. Whereas a tiltrotor utilises rotors, the tiltjet employs jet engines with the entire propulsion system being rotated from axial to dorsal in order to achieve a transition from hover or vertical flight to horizontal. They are typically fully capable of VTOL operations.

List of tiltjet aircraft

  • Bell D-188A - proposed supersonic tiltjet fighter
  • Bell 65 "Air Test Vehicle" - 1954 experimental tiltjet
  • EWR VJ 101 - 1960s German supersonic experimental tiltjet fighter
