Thuruthippuram Boat Race

Thuruthippuram Boat Race (TBR)(തുരുത്തിപ്പുറം ജലോത്സവം) is one of the oldest boat race in Central Kerala. This boat race is an yearly event conducted in the Thuruthipuram river. The race is organized by Thuruthippuram Boat Club. Thuruthippuram Boat race started in 1970s but later it was stopped because of the financial problems. In 1997, a group of spirited boat race lovers joined together to restart Thuruthippuram Boat Race. They named the organizing club as St.Antony's Boat Club. In 1997 Nov 9th the boat race was restarted and it got the attention of hundreds of boat race lovers. In 1999, the boat club was renamed to Thuruthippuram Boat Club. In 2003, the boat race once again stopped because of the financial difficulties and it restarted in 2010. Now this boat race is conducting on the Sunday after 4th October every year


TBR 2016
TBR 2016 was the 14th edition of Thuruthippuram Boat Race. It was held on 9th October 2016. The boat race was inaugurated by Mr.Taison Mater MLA. The race was organized in two categories, Iruttukuthi A Grade(30-35 paddlers) and Iruttukuthi B Grade(20-25 paddlers). TBR produced spectacular races for the viewers. In two toughest finals, Thuruthippuram boat rowed by S.S.B.C Thuruthippuram became the champions in A grade defeating St.Antony boat rowed by T.B.C. Cochin Town. Hanuman No.1 rowed by the host team T.B.C. Thuruthippuram became the 2nd runner-up in the A Grade. In B Grade Sreemurukan boat of Sreemuruka Boat club, Undekkadave won the Gold by defeating the defending champions Jibi Thattakan rowed by Oruma Boat club Madaplathuruth.
