Thomas E Jones

Thomas Elsa Jones (1888 – August 5, 1973) was the fifth president of Fisk University, serving from 1926 to 1946. He was also president of Earlham College. A Quaker, Jones served as a missionary with his wife in Japan.

Growing up in Fairmount, Indiana, Jones attended Fairmount Academy. He received his bachelor's degree from Earlham College in 1912, and studied at Hartford Theological Seminary, graduating with a B.D. in 1915. Jones earned an M.A. in 1917 and an Ph.D. in sociology in 1926 from Columbia University.

Jones died on August 5, 1973, in Richmond, Indiana.
