Thokchom is a sagei or title or surname specific to the Meitei/Meetei community of Manipur [1] a state in the north eastern region of India. Thokchom belongs to the Moirang clans or Yek.
Status
The Thokchom surname is an old and popular/well known surname since ancient time. Presently, Thokchom Leikai are found in Moirang, Charangpat, Kwakeithel, Singjamei and Keishampat. A village named Thokchom also exist in Thoubal District in Manipur However, they can be found in almost all the leikais and villages of Manipur. There are also large population with Thokchom surname in Cachar, Assam.
