Thermo-magnetic motors convert heat into mechanical work by heating a ferromagnetic material above its Curie point (where it becomes non-magnetic) and then cooling it below that critical temperature. Experiments have only produced extremely inefficient working prototypes. The thermo-magnetic motor principle has been studied as a possible actuator in smart materials.
