The shortest joke is a cycle of jokes known in some cultures. The idea is to present the comic core in the most distilled way. Jokes of this type support the incongruity theory of humor, since they rely on some paradox related to the joke subject.

  • Among Russian political jokes, the following meta-joke is known: A famous comedian landed in Gulag. When asked what for, he answered: People asked me to tell the shortest joke, and I told them: "Communism".
