Plot

Kate Sommers' family moves from Isla Nada, California, to Belletoona, Pennsylvania. In Isla Nada, Kate was the president of her sixth grade class and the girlfriend of a surfer named Josh. In Belletoona, she is being bullied by two girls who smoke, watched over by the principal, and there is snow everywhere. The only thing Kate can look forward to is the day when she has enough money to buy a plane ticket back to Isla Nada to see her friend Molly.
