Plot

As described in a film magazine, Mary (Love) is a young country woman who marries wealthy Spencer Wellington (Tucker) and moves to the city. When he grows weary of the alliance, he abandons her. Several years later the young mother and her boy Buster (Lee) are living in a single room in a poor tenement. While selling newspapers Buster is befriended by a Japanese vegetable vendor Wang (Hayakawa). When Wang discovers the family's pitiful condition, he takes the youngster into "partnership." Mary becomes ill and Wang sits by her side until she is well. After he looses his horse and vegetable stand, he opens a fortune telling booth with Buster as his valuable assistant. When Wang is invited to a fashionable gathering to display his powers, he tells some unpleasant truths about the guest of honor, Spencer Wellington, who has become engaged to a society lady Norma Biddle (Wilson), and reveals that Spencer is the father of the newsboy. There is a happy ending when country boy Johnnie Rand (McCullough) comes to claim Mary's hand, while Wang seeks his sweetheart across the ocean.
