Plot summary

The Sorcerer of the North The main characters of The Sorcerer of the North are Will the Ranger, Horace the knight, Halt Will’s master, Alyss, a messenger, Malcolm the healer(also known as Malkallam), Shadow the dog, Tug, Will’s horse, and Crowley leader of the ranger corps. The book starts off with Will finding Shadow wounded on the side of the road injured by a spear. Then Will goes back to the castle he is assigned to and has a meeting with the Baron; the ruler of the castle. After the meeting the Skandians raid the castle and Will makes a deal with them. If he gives them food and water the Skandians have to leave. Before the Skandians leave Will captures the man who hurt Shadow and hands him over to the Skandians to be a slave. Will is assigned to a mission to find out who the mysterious magician in Grimsdell wood is and to stop him from terrorizing the castle of Macindaw. Then Will goes under disguise as a Jongleur; somebody who acts as a jester but doesn't serve a king, he/she goes around the kingdom entertaining for money. The reason of this is then people would trust him as a Jongler instead of a Ranger to get more information about the terrorist in Grimsdell wood. Then Will travels to Macindaw where their Baron lord Syron has been poisoned and is now in the hospital. His son Orman has taken over the castle while he is in the hospital but a leader and Orman's cousin in the castle named Keren has been trying to become Baron. Will takes a ride to Grimsdell and sees the night warrior one of the ghosts tin Grimsdell and rides away on Tug. Will performs for Orman during his dinner and Orman thinks he is a very bad Jongleur. Then Will meets Keren and thinks he is a very nice person. Alyss then comes disguised as a princess. Then Will sees sorcery books on Orman's table and thinks he's the magician in the woods. Will takes Alyss to Grimsdell wood during, the day and Alyss sees how the magician made the ghost. Then Alyss sends a report to Halt and Crowley with a pigeon. Halt gets the report and decides he should send Horace, Will and Alyss friend to help with Wills mission. Before Horace arrives Orman had been poisoned too and was dying and the only way to help him is to go to the magician in the woods who used to be a healer. Will is forced to run for Grimsdell Wood where the soldiers would follow but leaves Alyss behind. Shadow finds a trail and leads them to the Malcolm the magicians/healers house. He greets them after they see a giant walking around and other deformed people who Malcolm took in as helpers. Will then tries to save Alyss and climbs the tower and puts acid on the metal bars. Then Keren walks in the door and Will climbs back down the tower barely escaping alive.
