The Sims 3: Late Night (LN) is the third expansion pack for the strategic life simulation computer game The Sims 3 and is similar to previous expansions The Sims 2: Nightlife for The Sims 2 and The Sims: Hot Date for The Sims. It incorporates some elements from The Sims: House Party, The Sims: Superstar, and The Urbz: Sims in the City.

This expansion pack also introduces a brand new city neighborhood named 'Bridgeport', based on the cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles, which is divided into an urban/downtown area, a less dense uptown area, and a hilly, affluent suburb.

In The Sims 3: Late Night, your Sims can go out to the downtown area of the brand new world, Bridgeport. The downtown area includes: Dive Bars, Sports Bars, a Local Watering Hole, Dance Clubs, Poolside Clubs, Disco Clubs, Exclusive Lounges, Vampire Lounges, and Fusion Lounges. All of these community lots have their own unique names, but some require for you to be a high-class Sim for your entry. With these new community lot types come new rabbitholes and high rises; and also some new types of Sims – vampires and celebrities.

As a vampire your sim receives new abilities such as increased skill learning speed, the ability of reading other Sims' minds to find out their traits and relationship status, and the ability to run faster than ordinary Sims. In Bridgeport there are some premade vampire families such as the Slayer and Hemlock households. To become a vampire, you have to befriend or become friends involved with one and ask them to turn you. If The Sims 3: Supernatural is installed, the player can create a vampire straight from Create-a-Sim.

If Sims are Celebrities, then they will get discounts or completely free food, fan mail and gifts from obsessed fans and your Sims will be able to get into the most high class clubs in the neighborhood.

In Create-a-Sim there are more than a dozen new clothes and hairstyles available for your Sims and the new muscle definition is introduced. There are also 2 new traits: Shy and Star Quality. Sims that dance frequently throughout the day eventually get the Club Dance interaction. In build mode, there are now half walls and a few new flooring, and wall covering options and one new flowering plant. Additionally, pools can be placed on other building levels (2nd, 3rd, 4th floors and the basement.) In buy mode, there are new objects such as hot tubs, strobe lights, dance floors, and new object additions (new couches, beds, bar stools, etc.)

Bridgeport

It is the first urban city of its kind to be featured on the Sims series games as most past neighbourhoods were either towns or suburbs.

Bridgeport is designed to focus on late night activities, and is similar in many respects to Downtown, a previous sub-neighborhood introduced in The Sims: Hot Date and The Sims 2: Nightlife expansion packs. However, Bridgeport is not a town but rather a major metropolitan city which apparently based on New York City or other major city in the US. Therefore, it is a much larger version of a Downtown.

With the official announcement of Late Night, it was apparent that a new town would be created to showcase the new features in the expansion. Initially, it was unknown whether this would be a sub-neighborhood and thus similar to the Downtown of The Sims and The Sims 2, or whether it would be an entirely new neighborhood (much like The Sims 3: Ambitions introduced Twinbrook) although it is said that Bridgeport is 3 times bigger than Twinbrook. During a Twitter session, game producer, Grant Rodiek, confirmed the existence of a "downtown" that would be its own separate neighborhood; it was also announced that the town was unnamed, thus indicating that the new town would most likely not be named 'Downtown'. GameSpot, in an article released on August 16, 2010, revealed that the name of the new neighborhood is 'Bridgeport'.

The city of Bridgeport includes high rises and penthouse lofts, and is made of multiple islands connected by bridges. Sims are able to both drive and walk over these bridges. It has been described as "a mix of downtown San Francisco with the hills of Los Angeles/Hollywood just across the bridge".

Bridgeport is divided into two main areas: an urban city center, and a suburban area with luxury mansions. Bridgeport features new graphics for certain rabbit holes. An interesting fact about Bridgeport is that Sims here are much richer on average than sims in Sunset Valley and Riverview. Bridgeport families start with around $5000 and there are several rich families with large houses you can play.

Careers

There is one new career, the film career. The career puts emphasis on the Celebrity mechanic, also introduced with The Sims 3: Late Night, as it is a factor that influences job performance. Sims in the film career go to work at the new rabbit hole: Film studio, but are also able to do other career-related tasks around the neighborhood, much like the Medical career, or the careers added in The Sims 3: Ambitions.

Some of these tasks include promoting movies at bars and picking up food for shoots. Sims in the film careers can win awards, similar to the ones in The Sims: Superstar. Sims in the career can also write movie scripts. The movie studio rabbit hole name is Plumbob Pictures Backlot.

There is a big emphasis on becoming a celebrity. Celebrities are fun for storytelling or for those who play the sims for the challenges. They also fit perfectly with the penthouse suites, clubs with VIP lounges, and bands. You can become a celebrity by befriending celebrities or impressing them by talking about your job, wealth, name dropping, or simply making things up. You can also buy a round of drinks for other sims at the bar to prove you are a hot shot.

A celebrity is something you have to become, although the spouses and offspring of celebrities get an extra boost. Celebrities are granted access to better clubs and VIP lounges. They are given discounts around town. Like free drinks or food at the club. They are invited to hang out at exclusive parties with other celebrities. Sims that are celebrities are stalked by the paparazzi and admiring fans, who will ask you for their autograph.

There are also scandals. If your celebrity sim is caught doing something in public like cheating on their spouse or nude swimming, this could affect their public image. To defend themselves, celebrities can pay off the paparazzi or go down to the City Hall and sue their trouble makers.
