Researched and written by John L. Satterlee, it contains stories written by the Illinois State Journal editors that were submitted by the "Observer" and others as well as many things that went on in Springfield, Sangamon County, Illinois and the world during the Civil War.
A thousand copies were printed, all in hardback and each signed by the author.
