The Gorilla (1927)

The Gorilla is an American play written by playwright Ralph Spence, which played on Broadway for 15 performances in April and May 1925. The original title was The Gorilla: A Mystery Comedy. It was turned into the 1927 silent film of the same name, and was filmed again in 1930 and 1939, the latter as a vehicle for The Ritz Brothers, but containing Patsy Kelly's favorite of her performances, in which she acted opposite Bela Lugosi. The play also served as source material for the 1937 Warner Bros. comedy Sh! The Octopus starring Hugh Herbert and Allen Jenkins, with the gorilla converted to an octopus.
