The Forbury Hotel (formerly Shire Hall) is a grade II listed hotel in the town of Reading in the English county of Berkshire. It is situated on the southern side of Forbury Gardens, a public park in the town centre.

History

The Forbury Hotel's building was constructed in 1911 as a headquarters building for Berkshire County Council, and then known as the Shire Hall. It accommodated staff and held committee meetings, full council meetings being held in the Assize Court building next door. In 1980 the council moved to a new Shire Hall in Shinfield Park and subsequently it was converted into offices.

It was converted into a hotel and in 2006 opened under the name The Forbury Hotel. The extensive renovations, managed by EGS Architects included a restaurant garden area with specimen pomegranate tree and a water wall as its central focus, designed by Terra Firma Landscape Architects.
