This docudrama chronicles the life of L. Frank Baum, the writer of "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz." With the unwavering support of his wife, Maude (Annette OToole), the author endured many rejections from publishers and encountered disheartening personal setbacks, but never gave up on his dream of bringing the land of Oz to life.
The Dreamer of Oz: The L. Frank Baum Story is a 1990 film that stars John Ritter as Lyman Frank Baum, the man who wrote The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and thirteen of the other Oz books. Also starring in this TV movie was Annette OToole as Baums supportive wife, Maud and Rue McClanahan as Baums tough mother-in-law, Matilda Gage. Johns son, Jason Ritter, makes his debut in this telefilm as Harry Neal Baum.
The film is the biography of Frank Baum, the children's book author and creator of the fantasy world Oz.
