Influences

Speed described the ideas behind The Dreamer by saying that it came together in a relatively short time although its concepts have been with him for a very long time. "As I remember from when I was a little kid, I found out that the writer Roald Dahl used to get ideas and write them down on scraps of paper then stow them away in his desk drawer for a rainy day. This music is from my rainy day ideas that were stowed away then brought out and melded together to make this record."

Song Ideas

The songs are described by Speed as:

  • Unconventional Paradigm - a proposal on an advancement of humanity.
  • Art Is… - his philosophy on the nature of art.
  • Miss Bitty - the story of how he met his girlfriend
  • The World Song - a 'shout out' to the people of Earth.
  • Ready For Action - the nature of self-confidence and alter egos.
  • Everybody Needs Somebody - a song about 'pure infatuation'.
  • You Should Be Dancing - about shyness, skill building and Ballroom Dancing.
  • On The End Of A String - his philosophy on living life.
  • Nudity - about surreal experimentalism and for people that love craziness.
  • Can’t Get Home - a story about 2 space explorers who get shipwrecked and marooned while on a reconnaissance mission.
  • Don’t Waste My Time - his response to an unfavourable review of a Curse Ov Dialect album 'Lost In The Real Sky' and also his dislike of procrastination.
  • The Cities - a story about a sinister city and a crumbling world.
  • Repressive Society - about repressive societies
  • Come On! - a song for people that love the future.
