Born of osiris follow the signs

The Discovery is the second studio album by American metal band Born of Osiris. It was released through Sumerian Records on March 22, 2011. It is also the first album by the band to use seven string guitars, and was produced solely by members of the band. The demo was produced by Periphery's Misha "Bulb" Mansoor. This is the only album to feature guitarist Jason Richardson, prior to him being kicked out of the band abruptly for unknown reasons never disclosed, eventually moving onto Salt Lake City Deathcore band Chelsea Grin, never collaborating or returning to the band for any further songs or albums.

Contents

The album debuted at 87 on the Billboard 200, gaining approval and critical acclaim, but topping less than their previous album, A Higher Place, which debuted at 73. Despite this, The Discovery acquired extremely positive reviews, causing the band to become a staple in the Deathcore and Progressive Metal genres. It is their most recognized and respected album.

Its style is what spawned the next two albums. The Discovery has a space-sounding, trance-like sound throughout, with periodic instrumental interludes, as well as lyricism pointed mostly to opening the mind's third eye, and has a very deep outlook on society and the world overall, which reflects the bands idealistic viewpoints. It is generally regarded as Deathcore, but also regularly called Progressive Metal. Vocals consist of low-growls, screams and high growls, as well as some guttural growls and screams, which is what the band went on to do most of later on. The album also features clean vocals, which is something the band had not previously tried out, and never did again. This is another reason the album has been called by many to be their most experimental and interesting. They later abandoned the clean vocals in their next albums, Tomorrow We Die Alive and Soul Sphere.

Prior to the release of the Discovery, Born of Osiris had not achieved mainstream popularity by the select audience of the genres they performed. After release, it grew as one of the most well known albums of the genre. It has since been regarded as their best album, complimented for its strong lyricism, extreme breakdowns, harsh, abrasive vocals, unique guitar riffs and style that differed from their previous records, mostly due to Jason Richardson being a part of the band.

The album, unlike any of Born of Osiris' previous work, features 15 tracks, most being under the three minute mark. The record as a whole is nearly an hour long, which was a number that most bands that played music like Born of Osiris had not previously dabbled in. This added to the uniqueness and appeal by most listeners.

The two singles from the album, Recreate and Follow the Signs, are the only two songs that were made into full-length official videos on the SumerianRecords youtube channel, both garnering positive feedback and viewership. Follow the Signs is their most viewed video to date, acquiring over four million views as of March 29th, 2017. Andrew Pulaski directed both videos. Abstrakt Pictures produced Follow the Signs.

The band wrote all of the lyrics, and produced all of their music throughout the record, with the help of some others.
