"The Best Thing" is a song by American indie rock band Ivy. It was released twice during 1997-1998 by Atlantic Records in the United States as both a CD single and a promotional single from their second studio album, Apartment Life. It was also released by East West Records in Italy as a split jukebox single, paired with "A Nanny in Manhattan" by Lilys.

Critical reception

"The Best Thing" received acclaim from music critics. Stephen Thompson of The A.V. Club praised the track for its "sensuous style". Jack Rabid of AllMusic also praised the track, calling it "a true single with a chorus that is to swoon and croon over".

Music video

A music video was released in 1998, depicting singer Dominique Durand in a futuristic and minimal setting, with a photo booth that takes photos of the band members and others throughout the video. Towards the end, the video cuts to black as Durand is shown singing in front of the booth.
