"Texas" is the nom de guerre of an unidentified American who is currently fighting alongside pro-Moscow forces in the war in Donbass. He is the only American fighting alongside the pro-Russian separatists. POLITICO magazine described him as a "tow-headed, glassy-eyed 50-something" who expresses 9/11 Truther beliefs and claims that the United States is ruled by a fascist government led by "a monkey". Alexander Zakharchenko has praised "Texas", describing him as a man who was raised by a "good mother".
In a September 2015 article, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation identified "Texas" as Russell Bentley, describing him as "an American convicted drug smuggler" who "has become a poster boy for the rebel cause."
