The Territorial Environmental Information System of the Colombian Amazon SIAT-AC (Spanish: Sistema de información ambiental territorial de la Amazonia colombiana) has been defined as a process in which a set of actors (institutions) sets up agreements, with common goals about the environmental information management of the Colombian Amazon (agreements: conceptual, organizational, technical, data infrastructure, methodologies, protocols, and technological (information networks, telecommunications, access), organized as a network of individuals and entities, to provide data and information products for decision makers in regional processes to achieve sustainable development.
The SIAT-AC find contribute from environmental information management to the knowledge generation, decision-making, and social participation for the sustainable development management of the Colombian Amazon by means of the following specific objectives:
Contribute to processes of occupation of the Amazon territory on being environmentally and socially sustainable.
Organize and properly dispose environmental information to support national and regional processes that affect the Colombian Amazon (CA). Processes such as: policy design, research, development, education, production and extraction of natural resources, environmental monitoring, environmental management, construction of a regional vision.
Design and establish a network of institutions and individuals operating under agreements regarding environmental information management.
Promote the assurance of permanent environmental data of the CA managed by SINA’s entities.
Facilitate the access to environmental information of the Colombian Amazon to all audiences.
Adapt, adopt or develop standards, protocols, technology solutions and processes to capture, generate, process, move, disclose and manage the generated information of the Colombian Amazon. Respond to the demands for environmental information of the Colombian Amazon.
