Contents

A "Team North America" was also assembled for the National Hockey League All-Star Game from 1998 to 2002, and consisted of NHL players of any age from Canada and the United States.

History

In September 2016, the team competed in its first ever match, defeating Team Europe 4-0. After three pre-tournament games, North America had won two and lost one of them (against Czech Republic).

During the official tournament, Team North America played only 3 games.

In their first game, they beat Finland 4-1. They lost 4-3 against Russia in their 2nd game despite being up most of the game. Team North America let in 4 goals in the second period against Russia. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Morgan Reilly scored to close the gap, but couldn't score again that game.

The biggest game of their history was their 4-3 win against Sweden. They controlled the game, and looked to advance with a 3-2 lead late in the third period, but Sweden forced the game into overtime, getting the point it needed to advance to the semi-finals. It also gave North America a slim chance to advance, even with a win. Nathan Mackinnon scored in OT to win the game for North America. They now had to rely on Finland to beat Russia to keep them in the World Cup of Hockey, but that never happened and North America was out.

Team North America was 2-1-0, winning twice and losing once. They scored 10 goals and allowed 8.
