Tavares Bowens is an American football coach. He currently is the assistant Defensive Line Coach with the Colorado Crush of the Indoor Football League under Jose Jefferson.
In 2008 as the head coach/defensive coordinator, Bowens was named American Indoor Football coach of the year and led the Florence Phantoms to a 14-2 record and the AIFA Championship over Wyoming Calvary 48-12. The Phantoms ranked #1 in total Offense and Defensive. In 2007, Bowens worked as an Assistant coach for the Lakeland Thunderbolts under Head Coach Teddy Keaton working with Linebackers. Bowens helped the Thunderbolts to the AIFA championship win over the Reading Express, that year the Thunderbolts led boasted the #1 ranked Defense. 2005-2006 Bowens served as an assistant coach in the Arena Football League for the Orlando Predators under now Washington Redskins Head Coach and AFL Hall of Famer Jay Gruden. Bowens worked with the Fullbacks/linebackers and helped the predators win the conference championship in route to an appearance in Arena Bowl XX where the Predators lost to Mike Ditkas Chicago Rush. Bowens also spent time as an assistant coach working with Running Backs at Ridge Community High School, Lake Region High School and Auburndale High School. As a college Fullback for Saginaw Valley State University in Michigan, Bowens averaged over 6 yards per carry under former University of Minnesota Head Coach Jerry Kill. Bowens was a major contributor in a backfield that led the NCAA in rushing in 1997 and 1998.
