Tamney is a small village in Fanad in County Donegal in Ireland. It was sometimes spelt as Tawny or Tawney and in Gaelic it was known as Tamnaght. It was the only Postal Town of the peninsula of Fanad (or Fannet/Fannett) in the 1700/1800s when its population of around 10,000 (now about 2,000)in the early 1800s, and the address given as home address by emigrants boarding to the USA.

In 1904 Seumas MacManus wrote a one-act play ''The Townland of Tamney''.
