The Taking of Congress (Spanish: Toma del Congreso) is an ongoing event that started on January 15, 2013 in the United States Capitol in which more than 130 private citizens from different advocacy groups in Puerto Rico started a campaign in which they visited every member of the United States Congress in order to explain them the results of the 2012 Puerto Rican status referendum—in which a majority of voters expressed themselves against the current political status of Puerto Rico. They will also attempt to persuade the members of Congress to initiate a process to change Puerto Rico's political status. The campaign is supported by U.S. representative José Enrique Serrano and Resident Commissioner of Puerto Rico Pedro Pierluisi.
