He played for Verdy Kawasaki, Jubilo Iwata, Cerezo Osaka and Vissel Kobe before his final playing years at Avispa Fukuoka, where he became "Ambassador" upon his retirement in 2009. He then moved on to Kashiwa Reysol in 2010, where he worked as coach (under current Avispa Fukuoka manager Masami Ihara). He was appointed manager of Kyoto Sanga FC for the 2017 season.

He was a versatile player who was at home all over the midfield, while also filling in as a defender or striker on rare occasions. He was part of Vissel Kobe's "Three Be's" midfield, with Yuta ABE (currently coach at Vissel) and Shigetoshi HaseBE (former manager at JEF United, and still on coaching staff there).
