Taiwan Communist Party (Chinese: 台灣共產黨 or 臺灣共產黨) is the first political party of the Republic of China (Taiwan) that could be legally named "Communist". It was established on June 20, 2008 in Xinhua, the same day that the Justices of the Constitutional Court ruled the prohibition of communism unconstitutional.
Before, the party's founder and chairperson, Wang Lao-yang (王老養), had tried to found a communist party since 1994.
Though the party is named Communist Party, Wang Lao-yang declared that it was a Social Democratic party. Claiming not to understand Marxism-Leninism completely, he said the party was named Communist Party, because this name attracted people. Officially, the party has no subordinate relations with the Communist Party of the People's Republic of China.
