Tacoma mayoral election, 2009

The 2009 Tacoma mayoral election took place on November 3, 2009. The Incumbent Mayor Bill Baarsma was prevented from running in the general election because of term limits.

Tacoma did not hold a primary election because only two individuals filed for the office: Marilyn Strickland (a former Starbucks corporate executive and Tacoma School Board member) and Jim Merritt (Northend resident, architect, and activist).

Strickland defeated Merritt 51% to 48%.
