A tabletop runway is a runway that is located on the top of a plateau with either end stopping abruptly and dropping into deep gorges. These types of runways create an optical illusion that requires a very precise approach from the pilot.

A large section of Indian media blamed the table-top runway at Mangalore Airport to be a causative factor for the Mangalore Air crash on May 22, 2010.
