TRANSFER is a gallery that was created in 2013 and is located in Brooklyn, New York. It was co-founded by Kelani Nichole in 2013. Nichole, an independent curator, currently serves as the gallery’s director. TRANSFER is a unique gallery, in which was created to help online artists become more connected in a physical way. The gallery’s main objection is to allow online artists to literally “transfer” their art into a physical context using four blank walls. Given these four blank walls, artists can revert to old creative ways in drawing, painting, sculpture, or photography to recreate their online work. Thus, through this process, the gallery was given the name TRANSFER.
In 2014, TRANSFER hosted 10 solo exhibitions, along with more than a dozen other events. Now in its third year, the gallery has been home to a total of 29 solo exhibitions and currently has 21 artists with whom it collaborates regularly. Artists who have exhibited work at the gallery include Rosa Menkman, Carla Gannis, Marisa Olson, and Lorna Mills, among many others. The work of those who have been involved in TRANSFER has also appeared in publications such as Hyperallergic, The Creator’s Project, Wired, Artforum, Fast Company, Artnet, AQNB, ArtFCity, POSTmatter, Animal NYC, L Magazine, along with many others. Director Kelani Nichole has also had work featured in outlets and such as NOOART and NYC Fox5 News.
